I’m indifferent about the order for the second and subsequent readings through the Chronicles of Narnia. But the first time must follow publication order. We were meant to discover Narnia through the wardrobe with Lucy.
Absolutely. Once you've gone through the wardrobe the first time through, enjoy any order (or non-order) you'd like on subsequent readings. You may gain insight by reading them through chronologically, in the order Lewis wrote them, or even haphazardly. But, you're right, that first journey must start with Lucy's discovery of Narnia.
