The Door Jam is a place to squeeze in relevant articles written about C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, their work, adaptations of their fantasy worlds, news from other franchises, and interesting articles. Unless otherwise stated, I’m not endorsing (or criticizing) any of these but merely sharing them with you.
This week’s top story is a rare recording of Lewis reading a portion of The Four Loves.

Appropriately enough, given the holiday this week, the C.S. Lewis official Substack shared a recording of Lewis reading from The Four Loves. Unfortunately, not much audio of his voice remains, despite his often appearing on the radio, giving public addresses, and lecturing at Oxford. This is one of the few audio clips of Lewis in existence.
This audio excerpt is from Lewis’s original broadcast recordings for the Episcopal Radio Hour.
In this segment, Lewis unpacks the beauty and depth of Philia—the love shared between true friends. One of my favorite lines from the recording is, “In a circle of true friends, each man stands for nothing but what he is.”

A book by or about C.S. Lewis
It’s the time of year when we often think about love, but we don’t think about it deeply enough. Lewis helps us to do so in The Four Loves.
