The top story this week is more rumors swirling around a theatrical release for Greta Gerwig’s Narnia adaptation.
Top Story
Last week, the rumors around Gerwig’s Narnia went from she’s leaving and the project is likely finished to it’s filming in July and going to be all about rock and roll. This week, some have said Gerwig’s Netflix deal has long included a theatrical release.
Bloomberg is reporting that a deal is imminent because “Everyone wants to do it.” The rumored plan would include a December 2026 release in theaters and a premiere on the streaming soon after.
Netflix’s only hangup is not creating a precedent for other filmmakers. IMAX doesn’t want to alienate the studios who regularly place movies in their theaters. But IMAX’s chief content officer Jonathan Fischer is a former Netflix VP. He’s working to get everyone on the same page.
Whenever Netflix makes it back to the screen, it will apparently do so without Tilda Swinton, who played the White Witch in the previous Narnia adaptation. She seemingly had no idea Gerwig was restarting the franchise but said she’d love to watch the movie. So now it’s us and Tilda waiting on any more actual confirmations.

C.S. Lewis quotes of the week
My brother heard a woman on a bus say, as the bus passed a church with a crib outside it, “Oh Lor! They bring religion into everything. Look—they’re dragging it even into Christmas now!”

A book by or about C.S. Lewis
I’m breaking my rule of this being a book directly related to Lewis. Since we’re so close to Christmas and the arrival of Santa Claus, I thought I’d recommend Tolkien’s book, Letters from Father Christmas. Each year, the famed author would write letters to his children from Father Christmas. This serves as a collection of those familial letters.
