The Door Jam is a place to squeeze in relevant articles written about C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, their work, adaptations of their fantasy worlds, and other potentially interesting news, information, and articles. Unless otherwise stated, I’m not necessarily endorsing (or criticizing) any of these, but merely sharing them with you.
This week, the top story is about the wild rumors that were flying and then shot down about Narnia casting news. We’ll also look at some updates on The Hunt for Gollum movie that are partly encouraging and partly depressing, C.S. Lewis’ stepson selling his island home, more Tolkien works for sale, and a classic Tolkien burn of Nazis.

Narnia Casting Rumor Debunked
This week began with exciting news about Netflix’s Narnia moving forward but ended all too quickly. A single sentence at the bottom of a Deadline article indicated Louis Partridge had been cast. Teen Vogue picked up on the report and connected it with an IMDb entry linking Partridge with Digory Kirke. So, in a matter of moments, we seemingly got our first casting for Greta Gerwig’s Narnia project and confirmation that she would be starting with The Magician’s Nephew.
When this first came out, I wasn’t sure what to think about the news, but I was excited to get some news.
Other sources, however, quickly cast doubt on those rumors. Narnia Web and What’s On Netflix said their sources denied the reporting. Eventually, Deadline stealth-edited their piece to remove the sentence without indicating they’d do so, while Teen Vogue had more journalistic integrity and added an update at the top of their story to note Partridge had not been cast.
While I am relieved we won’t have a 20-something actor playing the 12-year-old Digory, I am anxiously awaiting some (any) news on Gerwig’s adaptation. As soon as we have something, you can be sure we will talk about it here.
Since I’m concentrating on The Rings of Power review and the C.S. Lewis read-along in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader right now, I thought I’d include here some of the sections I normally feature in the weekly column.
Not Safe But Good
C.S. Lewis quote of the week
If the universe is so bad, or even half so bad, how on earth did human beings ever come to attribute it to the activity of a wise and good Creator?

A book by or about C.S. Lewis
Past Watchful Dragons by Walter Hooper has been a missing piece in my Lewis and Narnia study. If you are interested in going behind the wardrobe as it were of Narnia, this is an excellent book.
